Among the closest shapes (at most one axis off by one step), ordered by score. Re-reviews of the same sake are excluded and each brewery appears once. Where fewer than four qualify, the next closest shapes fill the gap.
"NEXT FIVE," formed by five young Akita brewers, has grown over 15 years into a major sake project representing not just Akita but all of Japan. A gentle sweetness like Japanese pear, together with a mellow acidity and milkiness reminiscent of sour cream, makes for a deliciousness that appeals straight to instinct. This bottle also suits long-term ageing, so letting it mature while you wait for the group's reunion is a fine way to enjoy it too.
